In a forest somewhere In a bog way out there Lies the body of Dan Ferlan He robbed a state bank Escaped from the tank Then fled up to Saskatchewan
He grew hair on his face Eluded the chase Made a home in the mouth of a cave He ate rabbit and deer Lived always in fear Worked hard to stay out of the grave
One day at a snare He was given a scare When a black bear rushed him in shock He slammed at its thigh Gouged at its eye And finished it off with a rock
Days could be long He’d break into song Missed Val back home in Grand Hat He swam in the lake Caught trout he could bake Made friends with a crow and a rat
On the first of December A day to remember Two felons came tracking him down They’d been in on the heist And swore by the Christ They’d search 'til the money was found
Short Sol had big feet And Rick was a cheat But a thin wisp of smoke was the clue So they stayed out of sight To give Danny a fright Then the accusations they flew
Danny pointed to Rick Said: “Sol played you a trick!” And their feuding gave Danny his chance With the help of the crow And the slippery snow He laid out the pair in a trance
Danny turned to retreat But tripped on Sol’s feet Gave his cave wall a massive head butt When the felons came to They saw Danny askew With a skull that was cracked like a nut
Tossing Dan in a bog
They took off at a jog Cursing fortune they’d let slip away While Val skipped town With a fellow named Brown Now they’re living it up in L.A.
La, la-la, la-la, laa, laa
La, la-la, la-la, lay
La, la-la, la-la, laa, laa
La, la-la, la-la, laay
So if you find poor Danny’s body
Near a rat and friendly crow
Leave it there as a reminder
To never steal another’s dough
La, la-la, la-la, laa, laa ...
